We are looking to recruit a dynamic, highly motivated, innovative and forward-thinking individual to both instruct and assess on our new Scottish Racing Academy programmes.
35 Hours per week
£29,376 per annum(pro-rata)
The Scottish Racing Academy aims to provide learner-centric training for anyone who would like to gain the skills required to be employed in one of many roles in racing, as well for anyone who already works in the horseracing industry and wishes to upskill their knowledge.
This instructor/assessor position will working with the Scottish Racing Academy students, enrolled on the Borders College Racing courses which are designed for learners who are still at school, full time learners based in the workplace and part-time opportunities for established members of stable staff. The courses that the successful candidate will be delivering are a new suite of SQA qualifications that have been developed for delivery via on an online platform with practical delivery and assessment in yards . Therefore, this role involves travelling to the workplace and teaching in a classroom environment.
The successful candidate will need to have significant experience with horses and a thorough understanding of racing. All teacher training, safeguarding and assessor qualifications will be funded for the post holder if they do not currently hold these certificates.
Borders College is the largest provider of post-compulsory education in the Scottish Borders with a strong record of learner success. The College is engaged in a large number of partnerships in the Borders and plays a leading role in learning and skills development working with employers and Community Planning Partnership to drive forward social and economic development in the Borders. The Scottish Racing Academy and Borders College are able to offer this position on a job share basis. The position will be offered subject to a satisfactory Protecting Vunerable Groups (PVG) check.
The development of the Scottish Racing Academy is thanks to the Racing Foundation who are committed to invest in the industry’s people agenda to attract, develop and retain more staff. The Scottish Racing Academy represents a collaboration between Scottish Racing, Scottish and British Horseracing industry partners and Borders College. Although the applications are being taken through Borders College, the successful candidate will be employed by the Scottish Racing Academy and therefore subject to the Scottish Racing Academy’s terms of employment.
