RMG and JETS annouce new Media Internship for Jockeys

Racecourse Media Group (RMG), the parent company of Racing UK, and Jockeys Employment Training Scheme (JETS) have announced a new Media Internship aimed at jockeys and former jockeys.

The 10-week RMG & JETS Media Internship will cover all aspects of the media, including presentation, punditry, production, digital, marketing and PR. The course will be hosted primarily at RMG’s London locations of Ealing and Victoria and is set to run from September to November 2017.

The comprehensive nature of the Internship means that those completing the programme will put themselves in an advantageous position if they are considering a career in media. The content of the course is as follows:

Week 1: Introduction to the gallery
Week 2: Shadowing assistant producers / filming
Week 3: Working with presenters – in the studio, on-course and on location
Week 4: Digital editorial and digital production
Week 5: Marketing and PR
Weeks 6 to 10: Focus on one department (depending on trainee’s preference)

The Internship is open to any rider who has held a professional licence issued by the BHA (including Apprentice and Conditional) and has had at least one ride on that licence. RMG are making two spaces available and will pay each trainee £5000 each (plus travel expenses).

Those interested in applying for the course can find an online application form below. Applications open on Monday April 3rd and close on Monday April 24th. Interviews will take place on May 5th and 9th.

Seb Vance, Director of PR & Communications at RMG, said: “Recent events on the track, such as Freddy Tylicki’s accident at Kempton, have highlighted just how precarious a jockey's career is. RMG wants to make a lasting and meaningful contribution to their future by giving something back to the ambassadors of the sport, who risk their health every day for our sport and livelihoods. We are hopeful that the training could conceivably lead to a career in the racing media.”

Lisa Delany, JETS Manager added: “We are extremely grateful to RMG for creating this internship for jockeys. Working in the media has proved a popular career choice for many former jockeys and we encourage any jockeys interested in this area to take advantage of this unique and exciting opportunity.”
