Description:
Janah is looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual who can join their team in the brand-new role of Trainee Horsebox Driver! This role is perfect for anyone who has a passion for equine care and a keen interest in learning and developing new skills. You will be involved in the transport and care for our horses on national and international journeys making sure their welfare remains paramount at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transporting horses by road in a 3.5T – 26T rigid Horsebox on short and long journeys.
- Be able to care for horses whilst in transit on short and long journeys and have the ability to spot when a horse needs attention.
- Groom on a Horsebox for Vet and Local Movements.
- Ensure that the vehicle you are responsible for is clean inside and out and all aspects of Biosecurity have been observed.
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects immediately.
- Carry out an inventory check on all the equipment on the Horsebox and report anything that is missing or damaged.
- Understand the paperwork that is required when transporting horses, both domestically and internationally.
- Ensure that any paperwork is filled in correctly and handed in on time.
- Be familiar with all of the various configurations of the stalls in the horse area on all vehicles to accommodate any scenario required.
- Have an understanding on the rules on Drivers’ hours and Tachograph regulations and remain compliant at all times.
- Applying and removing Tack from horses when required.
- Understand the safety requirements at an airport when dropping or collecting horses.
- Have the ability to maintain driver records and how to input manual entries.
- Attend annual CPC training to maintain required skill sets.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Hold a clean valid Category B licence in order to undergo training to gain the category C entitlement.
- Previous Horse Handling Experience with Mares, Foals and Yearlings.
- Basic IT Skills, emails, spreadsheets, Teams and other social media groups.
Desired:
- Level 3 Award in the Principles of Transporting Horses by road on Long Journeys (training will be given).
- To hold current a valid Category C driving licence
- Valid Drivers Tachograph Card (training will be given).
- Valid Drivers Qualification Card (training will be given).
- Certificate of Competence for Drivers and Attendants EU (training will be given).
- Basic Horse First Aid.
- Have some knowledge on the location of the UK’s flat racing courses.
You will be able to provide excellent customer service to all those you come into contact with, internally and externally and have a good understanding of the current EU transport and vehicle legislation making sure the vehicle is safe to be on the road.
Additional information
At Janah, a portion of our work involves international transport of thoroughbreds, but we also cover Endurance Horses, Show Jumpers and Polo Ponies, including to and from airports in the UK and EU. Alongside this we also support Godolphin transporting runners to and from racecourses.
