Further information
HEROS is a registered charity ( with a dual focus: 1) re-homing and re-training thoroughbred ex-racehorses and 2) education and training for learners of all ages wanting to work in racing and/or with equines in other settings.

Funded by the Racing Foundation, HEROS had a highly successful pilot year in 2017. We can now offer a range of equine qualifications. Our bespoke, non-residential, learning-needs-based courses planned in partnership with local racing trainers is designed to support recruitment and retention in racing. The program integrates `classroom’ learning with real-life work experience in racing yards, and at Studs.
Our Entry and Level 1 generic horse-based qualification provides a strong knowledge foundation and practical skills to facilitate progression on to a racing specific qualification. The Racing Academy, which focuses on racing-specific teaching, took five learners during 2017, two more in 2018 and up to fifteen more will join us in September.

West Oxfordshire Council, Berkshire, Reading and Wiltshire Councils have now approved HEROS as a provider of flexible learning and vulnerable adults are now referred onto the programmes. In addition, `Alternative-to-School’ placements for 14-16yr olds are now available and six placements have been arranged to date.
The team comprises two dedicated part-time tutors supporting delivery of the equine qualifications and to teach functional skills. You will act as senior managing tutor helping to ensure that the program runs smoothly and helping to set the vision for the future.

We are looking for someone with a `can do’ attitude; a team player with a sense of humour and a strong commitment to making a difference for a diverse range of learners and we are happy if you don’t yet have much knowledge of racing. Salary will be based on age and experience. A full job description and information about terms and conditions are available from the office.
