Location – Flexible
2 Year Fixed Term Contract
Description: Following the publication of British horseracing’s Horse Welfare Strategy, A Life Well Lived, in 2020, racing’s independently chaired Horse Welfare Board (HWB) is seeking to recruit a Programme Director to lead delivery of the strategy and coordination of the projects identified within it.
This vital leadership role is an exciting opportunity to bring the strategy to life, working across racing and beyond to deliver a suite of projects designed to improve the welfare of all horses bred for racing, along with impactful communication of the industry’s welfare standards to wider audiences.
The Programme Director will be a proven leader, capable of uniting people behind the strategy, harnessing expertise from inside and outside the sport, and ensuring the work is delivered effectively, on time and within budgets. Previous experience running multi-project, cross-functional programmes is necessary, with the ability to produce phased, costed plans, to resource projects and to get things done.
Reporting into the HWB’s Independent Chair, you will lead a team of project leads responsible for overseeing specific groups of welfare and data projects within the strategy, as well as ensuring that the welfare communications work undertaken by Great British Racing on behalf of the HWB remains on track and in line with the HWB’s objectives.
You will need to work with racing’s main stakeholders and participants, maintaining support for the strategy implementation and championing collaboration across the industry. You must also be able to win support for the strategy from key external stakeholders and audiences. You will be required to report regularly on progress to racing’s leaders, as well as the programme’s funding partners.
This role is initially being offered as a two-year contract and, as such, will require the Programme Director to work a minimum of four days per week. Location is flexible within the UK, though the jobholder must be able to travel to meetings around the country as required.
The Programme Director is a cross-industry role, generously funded by The Racing Foundation. The role will formally be based, for salary and other administrative purposes, within the British Horseracing Authority (BHA).
Application: If you feel you have the relevant skills and experience, please apply by submitting your CV accompanied by a suitability statement (no more than 1 side of A4) describing your relevant skills and experience against the job description to: email@example.com
The closing date for applications is Tuesday 6 April 2021.
Please note that the recruitment process for this role will be managed by the BHA, on behalf of the Horse Welfare Board.
