Are you a proactive and experienced Stable/Groundsperson looking for a rewarding role to be proud of? We are looking to grow our grounds team at Chester Racecourse, with the successful person being employed on a permanent and full-time contract. Having been awarded “Gold Standard” by the Racehorse Owners Association, you will be pivotal to the continuous improvement and exemplary presentation of our site, preparing and maintaining the grounds, racing surface, paddock, the stables and all racing areas.

The successful Stable/Groundsperson will assist and support the Head Groundsperson, being responsible for:
Oversee and maintain the stable yard and stables, including maintaining stock levels and supervising casual stable staff
Prepare, muck out, clean maintain and set up the stable yard, stables and surrounding facilities/areas prior to, during and after racing in accordance with the British Horseracing Authority’s (BHA) General Instructions. Including the turning around of stables during any multi-day race meetings
Ensure all records and documentation are retained to ensure compliance with BHA General Instructions
Assisting with the maintenance and preparation of all lawns and racing surface areas , incl. erecting and maintaining course equipment (running rail, fences hurdles etc.)
Adhere to and inform casual workers of all relevant Health and Safety Policy and Operating Procedures as well as meeting Chester Race Company high standards at all time

The successful Groundsperson will have the following skills / experience:
Experience of working with/handling horses
Experience operating a tractor and associated attachments
Exemplary attention to detail and presentation with a hands on/can do attitude
Physically fit – able to work/handle machinery and work outside in all weather
Committed to high-quality work standards and delivering an excellent customer experience
Full UK driving licence
Application:
Hours of work: 37.5 per week, to include all Chester fixtures, plus Bangor fixtures as / when required
Salary: £25,000 - 28,000 per annum
