Our aim is to nurture and encourage our students so that they are able to move on to meaningful employment and achieve their goals.

We are looking for the right person to join our dedicated tutor team. We work with a range of learners, aged 11-16, included those with Special Educational Needs, behaviour that challenges, and high levels of anxiety. We are looking for a person who is able to communicate and encourage our students, whilst also teaching them equine skills and animal husbandry.

The right person would be able to create a meaningful learning journey using a variety of teaching methods including group teaching, class-based sessions and practical sessions; effectively managing learners’ individual learning plans and ensuring learners achieve their highest potential.

The duties and responsibilities listed below describe the post as it is at present. The post holder is expected to accept any reasonable alterations that may from time to time be necessary.

• Safeguarding – Safeguarding is a priority at HEROS and underpins everything we do, and is everyone’s responsibility.
• Offer a reflective space away from mainstream school. We use our beautiful setting to improve students’ mental, social and emotional wellbeing, alongside the engagement with the animals, including, horses, goats, ducks, etc.
• Supporting and motivating students in their re-engagement with learning through patience, kindness, and empathy.

• Undertaking learner reviews, documenting progress made and learner journey.

• Undertake other specified duties including course/resource development, tutorial support, and associated administrative tasks

• Prepare suitable teaching and learning materials for a range of courses/classes and make use of a range of appropriate delivery methodologies

• Maintain accurate records as required of all student attendance and behaviour

• Follow all agreed Quality Assurance Systems and Risk Management systems and comply with all policies and procedures (e.g. Health & Safety and Equal Opportunities) and ensure that these policies are followed

• Undertake appropriate staff development activities that support personal development, ensuring your own teaching practice conforms with standards

This post is classed as having a high degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. An enhanced disclosure will be sought through the DBS as part of HEROS Education’s pre-employment checks.


The job holder is required to contribute to and support the overall aims and ethos of the charity.
All staff are required to participate in training and other learning activities, and in performance management and development.

There is no supervision of staff within this role.

• Experience working with horses in a professional capacity
• Relevant teaching experience (including riding lessons) and/or training qualification (i.e. Cert Ed, PGCE, CTLLS, DTLLS)
• Level 2 qualification in Mathematics, English at a pass (GCSE 4/C or above)
• Ability to embrace and develop practical and innovative delivery models outside of classroom delivery models
• Good ICT skills
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
• Flexible, adaptable, and enthusiastic team-worker


• Experience working with a range of learners, including SEND and those considered to present behavioural challenges
• Experience in delivering teaching sessions using practical delivery models
• Experience of working within the Horse Racing Sector
• Experience in delivering Equine Vocational Qualification or relevant experience of the equine industry.
• CAVA/TAQA may be appropriate with the correct experience.
