This summer will see ten more applicants having the opportunity to take advantage of highly specialised Jockey Ambassador training provided by JETS (Jockeys Education & Training Scheme) in collaboration with the Professional Jockeys Association (PJA) and supported by Great British Racing (GBR) and the Jockey Training & Development programme.

The two day programme, hosted at Warwick racecourse on Monday June 30th and Tuesday July 1st, will provide a mixture of practical workshops, presentations and discussion groups, during which jockeys will develop new skills and gain knowledge to enhance their profile, engage successfully with a range of media and maximise commercial opportunities.

With sessions on Media & Fan Engagement, Brand Building, Social Media and Sponsorship, the programme also features a media skills workshop led by Richard Hoiles with fellow journalists Faye Carruthers and Dominic King from the wider sports media. Recently retired jockeys Daryl Jacob and Alan Johns will also be on hand to share their experiences in building personal brands and media profile whilst a guest speaker from another sport will close the two days.

The Jockey Ambassador training programme, which was first run in 2023 at Sandown and continued at Newmarket in 2024, has been attended by up and coming Apprentices and Conditionals such as Callum Hutchinson and Patrick Wadge as well as more established senior Jockeys such as Sean Bowen and Sean Levey.

Another attendee, Flat jockey Joanna Mason said:

“I learned so much which I can apply to my career, particularly the importance of building connections and experiences alongside our riding to help raise our profile and also prepare for the future. I would really recommend it to others in the weighing room next time this sort of training is offered.”

JETS Manager, Lisa Delany said:

“We are looking forward to welcoming the next cohort of trainees in 2025 as we’ve developed the Programme further. Everyone who’s taken part to date has shown a really positive attitude to embracing opportunities and a willingness to learn. We have seen how this sort of bespoke training with a small group of jockeys has benefitted them in helping raise their own profile but in turn benefit the wider sport of racing as the industry seeks to attract new and diverse audiences and participants.”

Limited spaces remain for the training are still available, please contact Lisa Delany to apply. The deadline for applications is May 27th.
