JETS Announce Sheila Bailey as new Trustee and Chair

Sheila Bailey has been formally appointed as Trustee and Chair of the Jockeys Education and Training Scheme at a recent JETS Board meeting. With a background in the charity sector and significant experience in racing as an owner, Director of both RoR and the ROA and as a BHA steward, she replaces longstanding former Chair Andrew Chalk who retired last year after 22 years in the role.

JETS was established in 1995 and provides jockeys and former jockeys with a wide range of career development support during their riding careers and in preparation for life after riding. Working in partnership with the Injured Jockeys Fund and Professional Jockeys Association and working closely with Jockey Training & Development stakeholders and the Jockey Coaching Programme, JETS engages with jockeys from the very start of their careers with Personal Development planning. It also offers funding and scholarship grants along with information, advice and guidance on all aspects of training and development. The charity has helped over 1,200 jockeys with career development, careers advice and coaching.

Sheila Bailey said:

“I was delighted to be formally appointed JETS Chair and meet the other Trustees at the recent Board meeting. We will be supporting a small, passionate and hard working team at JETS who provide such an important service for jockeys. It was good to hear how more jockeys than ever are making training applications and I’m looking forward to seeing JETS progress into the future.”

“We are delighted to welcome Sheila into the JETS team. Through her roles as both a charity CEO and as a consultant, she is clearly very knowledgeable about all aspects of charity and committee management. She also brings considerable experience in developing individuals and the holistic approach required to get the most of people.

“Her passion for racing and ultimately the long term welfare of both jockeys and horses is very clear and she will certainly bring valuable insight and input across the broad range of work that JETS carries out.”
